Considering Peace: A Vocal Chamber Music Fellowship Performance Collaborate Arts Institute of Chicago

A meditative song program, Considering Peace guides the audience through an exploration of peace and what it means in various aspects of our lives. What does Peace mean to you?

Poets grappling with the concept of peace have left a legacy of poetry to consider, and this program, featuring Vocal Chamber Music Fellows soprano Elizabeth Shuman and pianist Jennifer Allor, includes the world premiere performance of Edna St. Vincent Millay’s daring poem “Conscientious Objector”, set to song for the first time by Chicago-based composer Eric Malmquist.

Languages represented include English, Arabic, Hebrew, German. The visceral vocalise "Plea for Peace" for voice and string quartet by Augusta Read Thomas will be heard on February 27.

Audiences will experience this concert in the serene Buchanan Chapel at Fourth Presbyterian Church. The hour-long program will be followed by a chance to connect with the artists over refreshments. This program also features the renowned Kontras Quartet and includes songs by Chicago-based composer Myron Silberstein.
